Freedom, Unfreedom and Agency within the Academic Dream

Raising Awareness on the impact of narrative structures through experiencing immersive co-creative storytelling

An art-based science communication intervention in collaboration with artist and scenario developer Petra Ardai, artistic director of SPACE.

The programme of the ReMO 2024 Conference in Budapest focused on power imbalances and difficulties in bringing about institutional change in academia. The main goal of the 3-day intervention was to create a safe space where precisely these issues can be addressed, through a co-creative art experience that enables conference participants to become more aware of how narrative structures affect their well-being in academia. Through art, especially theatre, and immersive storytelling, participants and audience can experiment with dystopia and utopian worlds, and explore notions of freedom, unfreedom and agency. The ReMO Conference 2024 art-based intervention consists of sharing experiences and dilemmas, breaking open taboos, addressing hierarchical power structures and designing healthy research environments.
